Why Peeling Birch?

Discovering Your Potential

I love hiking in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and in the deserts of the Southwest, observing the uniqueness and variety of the landscape, plants and animals. I also love the reflection of the autumn trees or the moonlight on a calm lake and the adventure that kayaking down an unknown river brings.

It’s a metaphor for our own lives. Life ebbs and flows from times of hardships to times of joy and celebration. We each bring our own uniqueness and variety to life.

At Peeling Birch Coaching, we journey together to discover your potential, draw from what is already inside of you, and unearth who you have been created to be. Together, we peel away the layers of your complex and busy life to discover you.

Peeling Birch Coaching offers life and work place coaching, nutrition, wellness and self-care support, and spiritual companionship (interspirituality). Peeling Birch Coaching provides a a safe and confidential space for you to be seen and heard.

Andrea Fluegel is the founder of Peeling Birch Coaching and Northwoods Church Consulting, LLC, where she partners with individuals, clergy, congregations, and ministry teams to navigate transition, renewal, and holy conversations. With a deep commitment to curiosity, creativity, and faithful experimentation, she helps leaders and individuals discern the movement of the Holy Spirit in their lives and work.

Andrea is currently under pastoral call from the East Central Synod of Wisconsin (ECSW) as a Transition Facilitator, partnering with congregations in times of transition, shared ministry, revitalization, and holy closure. She is also the ECSW coaching coordinator and coaches those discerning a call to ministry. She also collaborates with Faith+Lead at Luther Seminary, coaching clergy and congregations through the Faithful Innovation process. She utilizes these practices and curiosities in her coaching and spiritual direction practice, helping leaders and congregations embrace Spirit-led change through deep listening, spiritual practices, and intentional action.

An ordained ELCA pastor, Andrea integrates design thinking, emergent strategies, and deep listening into her coaching and spiritual direction work. She is certified in Segment 1 and Segment 2 – Discipleship (Spiritual Practices) Coaching, trained in team coaching, and is currently pursuing Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credentials with the International Coaching Federation.

Andrea has also served as a guide for Formation Co-Op with the ELCA Youth Ministry Network, a collaborative learning experience focused on deep listening, experiments (small action steps), and reflection. She partners with clergy, Councils, ministry teams, and individuals to be curious and faithful about the movement of the Holy Spirit in their lives, work, and ministry, especially during times of transition, uncertainty, and reimagining.

In addition to her ministry coaching and spiritual direction work, Andrea is a Certified Nutrition Coach (Precision Nutrition) and a member of Spiritual Directors International. She believes in a holistic approach to well-being—caring for body, mind, and spirit. Whether working with clergy, ministry teams, or individuals in secular or business environments, Andrea brings creativity, curiosity, and imagination to help others embrace new possibilities.

We flourish when we have hope.

We flourish when our voice is heard.

We flourish in times of joy and pain.

We flourish in our belonging.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, and a Master of Divinity with an emphasis on Missional Leadership from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. She is also an Affiliate with the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and a graduate of the Franciscan Spirituality Center’s spiritual direction training program.
